The triptych that I made, Cinnabar and Green, Green Tea Cans and The Tea Trade are from a series of photographs that I took in the Tea Museum at Mariage Freres, 30 rue du Bourg-Tibourg in the Marais.
Directions to Mariage Freres
Since everyone asks, I will tell you how to get there. Go to the Hotel de Ville, face the front, walk to the left and you will come to the rue de Rivoli, turn right and go a few blocks. There will be a little park on your left. Walk through the park and look for a bakery, which smells beyond delight, called L’Ange d’Heurtebize. Keep going straight. That is rue du Bourg-Tibourg. Walk down the street slowly absorbing the essences and on the right will be Mariage Freres. All the tea is wonderful and the madelines are superb. Think of Marcel Proust and Remembrance of Things Past and sip your way into another century. It is not outrageously expensive. Be sure to see the tea museum upstairs. You will understand why I had to make the paintings.
