Postcards

I love to send and receive postcards. In Europe postcards are so treasured that they are frequently sent in their own envelopes…sort of defeating the purpose. The jolly, “What is that!” “OOOH how great!” delayed . I have my Grandmother Nina’s scrapbooks of postcards made especially for them to be saved .There are some very touching ones from days of her long distance courtship with my Grandfather. He was in Germany and she was in China (no phones or internet!).

Daniel Smith, Canson and so many paper manufacturers make blocks of post cards. I do mine in watercolor and then spray them with acrylic to prevent running in the rain and dirt ruining the pictures. I shamelessly copy photos as well. Thin collage is also great, but again I would spray with an acrylic to protect your work.

I think that individual homemade post cards are the BEST “thinking of you.” that anyone can receive, but that said, brings to mind Dorothy Parker’s quip, “Why always one perfect rose? How about a perfect limousine!”
